Blog # 1: Me, Myself & !
Greetings and salutations! My name is Jessi, I'm 30, and live in the suburbs of NYC with my new husband (the newlywed phase is as lovely as it sounds!) I work in Manhattan as an attorney and love spending time enjoying everything that NYC has to offer. I'm a social animal and spend lots of time with friends and family doing various activities like exploring NYC museums, broadway shows, concerts, bars and restaurants, etc. My husband and I are big outdoor people and love spending our free time enjoying physical fitness activities in the beautiful outdoors. We are avid snowboarders, hikers, campers, etc. There is no activity I shy away from and love trying new things. I am passionate about constantly trying new things, challenging myself, being open to learning new information and about new activities, and enjoying every day to the fullest. These photos give a glimpse into my life, what I'm all about, and some of the different activities I enjoy.
The image below gives a representation of how my body is functioning at this point in my life: efficiently but a bit overworked. I love to make the most of my time and sometimes can overextend myself a little bit! I do focus on my body, my health, and wellness so i try to stay within the realm of efficiency and not cross into the realm of overworked. If I could change anything I would have my body work at total optimal efficiency so that i dont waste a precious second of each day!
My approach to caring for myself is to focus on my health and wellness...the biggest thing is to simply show up! Just focusing on, thinking about, being aware of, etc is the biggest step toward achieving great health and wellness. I try to put in effort, stay informed, set reasonable goals for myself, and be my biggest cheerleader when i do well and sympatthetic coach when i fall short. My goal is overall health and wellness. i try to make good decisions today so that i have a better tomorrow....i strive to age well and lead a full. long, healthy life. My approach of engaging in physical activity, eating good (not processed food), etc is working well, but my biggest challenge is social sitautions. I find it difficult to maintain my good habits in certain social settings-peer pressure is a killer and usually comes in the form of a burger and fries!
The image below represents where I am on my journey...I'm climbing the mountain but still have a ways to go before I summit. I feel great about it. I'm much further along from where I was and I'm looking forwards/up. I am focused on the road ahead and working towards my goals. This is a much different approach from my youger days when I didn't think about my health or wellness and just lived each day at a time. I find it important to take care of my body as I get older and my priorities have changed and include more phyiscaly active-which requires a strong, health body!
Five brands that i interact with daily are whoe foods, silk (almond milk), kind (kind bars), lululemon, and starbucks. Whole foods-i iteract withthis brand for my grocery shoppin and often lunch because it represents what I want in my food-healthy, natural food that I can feel good eating and that tastes good. Silk almond milk goes in my coffee every morning and is a great product and a brand I trust. Kind bars are the first thing I eat in the morning and are a great brand with products that are healthy and good for you, without sacrificing good taste. lululemon is my dominant brand for athletic clothing that i wear while working out and makes me feel great, is great quality, and does the job while I do the work of working out! Starbucks is my daily coffee and is a great part of my daily ritual. I love going there each day, interacting with the friendly staff, and knowing they take pride in their coffee quality and their product is as good as it claims to be!

Welcome Jessi! My name is Kim, and I'll be corresponding with you throughout this assignment. I'll post after each blog, so please check back to see if there any questions throughout.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your first blog! I do have some additional questions for you below:
- You'd like to change having your body work at total optimal efficiency. Can you tell me what would need to change or what you'd do differently to do this?
- Could you tell me a bit about your physical activity? Is it just on weekends or is there also a weekday routine? Do you do anything specifically for stress (treatments, medicine, exercise)?
Thanks. I look forward to reading your next blog.
Hi Kim-nice to meet you!
DeleteSo in order for mybody ro work at total optimal efficiency I would have to do what I'm doing now at like 80% but do it at 100%. For example, I try to eat healthy and exercise, but sometimes fall prey to junk food and couch potato days. For my body to run at optimal efficiency, I'd have to treata it perfectly 100% of the time.
In terms of my physical activity now, I always exercise no the weekends, whether its outside with snoboarding or hiking or more traditionally in a gym with running, spinning, or yoga. I frequently workout during the week as well, though its less regular and subject to my other scheduling needs. I tend to run or do classes at the gym during the week, usually at least 2-3 days a week. In terms of stress, I like to exercise, do yoga, and meditate.
Thanks!
